MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, also known as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is an automatic or semi-automatic arc welding process in which electrode wire and protective gas are continuously flowed through a welding torch. Stable voltage, DC power source is most commonly used for MIG but constant current systems such as AC can also be used.
There are 4 main methods of metal transfer in MIG, called globular, short circuiting, spray and pulsed-spray, each of which has different features and has advantages and disadvantages.
